About Eye & Laser Surgeons Sydney

Specialist Eye Care in Bondi Junction and Miranda

At Eye & Laser Surgeons Sydney, we help adults and children protect, improve and maintain their vision. Clear, comfortable sight affects how you read, drive, work, study, play sport and enjoy daily life. Therefore, our care is designed around careful diagnosis, clear communication and personalised treatment planning.

Our specialist ophthalmologists, Dr Daya Sharma and Dr Shanel Sharma, provide comprehensive eye care across Bondi Junction, Miranda and greater Sydney. We combine advanced diagnostic technology with a thoughtful, patient-focused approach, so each recommendation is based on your eye health, lifestyle and long-term visual goals.

Cataract Surgery and Premium Lens Options

Cataract surgery is one of the most common reasons patients visit Eye & Laser Surgeons. We assess lens clarity, glasses prescription, corneal shape, astigmatism, macular health, glaucoma risk and dry eye before surgery. This detailed assessment helps us recommend the most appropriate intraocular lens option for each patient.

Depending on your eyes and goals, this may include monofocal lenses, toric lenses for astigmatism, extended depth of focus lenses, multifocal lenses or other premium lens options. As a result, cataract surgery planning is not only about removing a cloudy lens. It is also about choosing the safest and most suitable vision strategy for your future.

Laser Eye Surgery, ICL and Refractive Vision Correction

We also provide advanced laser eye surgery and refractive vision correction options, including LASIK, PRK, TransPRK, SMILE, implantable collamer lenses, and refractive lens exchange. Before recommending treatment, we assess the cornea, tear film, prescription stability, pupil size, retinal health and overall suitability.

This careful screening is essential because not every patient is suitable for every procedure. For example, some patients may be better suited to PRK than LASIK. Others may need ICL, lens replacement or no surgery at all. Therefore, our goal is to recommend the option that best supports both visual quality and long-term eye health.

Macular Degeneration, Dry AMD, Syfovre and MacuMira

Eye & Laser Surgeons also manages age-related macular degeneration, including dry AMD, geographic atrophy and wet macular degeneration. Macular degeneration can affect central vision, reading ability, face recognition and independence. Because early changes may be subtle, regular assessment and retinal imaging are important.

For selected patients with dry AMD or geographic atrophy, newer treatment options may be discussed, including Syfovre and MacuMira, where clinically appropriate. Treatment decisions depend on the type of macular degeneration, the stage of disease, visual function, retinal imaging findings and individual risk factors.

Glaucoma, Diabetic Eye Disease and Retinal Care

We assess and manage common retinal and optic nerve conditions, including glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, retinal changes, optic nerve disease and unexplained vision loss. These conditions may progress silently, especially in the early stages. Therefore, we use imaging, eye pressure measurement, optic nerve assessment and visual field testing to detect changes before major vision loss occurs.

Where needed, we coordinate treatment, monitoring and referral pathways to ensure patients receive the right care at the right time.

Dry Eye Treatment, Blepharitis, Chalazion and IPL

Dry eye can cause burning, grittiness, fluctuating vision, redness, watering and contact lens intolerance. It can also affect cataract surgery measurements and laser eye surgery suitability. For this reason, we assess the tear film and eyelids carefully before planning surgery or long-term treatment.

Treatment may include lubricating eye drops, eyelid hygiene, warm compresses, prescription anti-inflammatory treatment, meibomian gland management and IPL treatment for dry eye, when suitable. We also treat blepharitis, meibomian gland dysfunction, chalazion and other eyelid-related causes of ocular surface irritation.

Children’s Eye Care, Myopia Management and Strabismus

Dr Shanel Sharma provides specialist care for children’s eye conditions, including blurred vision, amblyopia, strabismus, double vision and focusing problems. We also offer myopia management for children with progressive short-sightedness.

Myopia management may involve glasses, contact lens options, atropine eye drops or other strategies depending on the child’s age, prescription, eye measurements and rate of progression. Early assessment matters because progressive myopia can increase the risk of eye disease later in life.

Botox for Strabismus and Eyelid Spasm

Eye & Laser Surgeons also provides Botox treatment for strabismus, where appropriate, as well as Botox treatment for selected eyelid spasm conditions. In strabismus, Botox may be considered in specific situations to help manage eye alignment, double vision or muscle imbalance.

However, Botox is not suitable for every patient. Therefore, treatment decisions require careful examination, diagnosis and discussion of the likely benefits, limitations and alternatives.

Advanced Diagnostic Technology and Personalised Treatment Planning

Our clinics use modern diagnostic technology, including corneal topography, tomography, retinal imaging, OCT scans, optic nerve assessment, visual field testing, dry eye assessment and advanced surgical planning tools. These investigations help guide decisions in cataract surgery, laser eye surgery, keratoconus treatmentment, macular degeneration care, glaucoma management, dry eye treatment and children’s eye care.

However, technology is only useful when it is interpreted properly. Therefore, we combine test results with your symptoms, examination findings, lifestyle needs and treatment goals before recommending a plan.

Eye Care Designed Around the Patient

Most importantly, we take time to understand what matters to you. For one patient, that may mean reading comfortably again. For another, it may mean driving at night with confidence, reducing dependence on glasses, protecting vision from macular degeneration, managing glaucoma, treating dry eye or helping a child see clearly at school.

At Eye & Laser Surgeons Sydney, you are not just another patient. You are someone we aim to look after carefully, clearly and consistently over the long term.
